OLD NEW YORK

Dates: February 20 - April 9, 2016

Buckshot Gallery is pleased to announce a major solo exhibition of legendary American Graffiti Artist SEEN,  showcasing previously undisclosed abstract works on canvas as well as his iconic, freehand graffiti works.

“OLD NEW YORK” documents a highly prolific period in Paris, during which SEEN has  created abstracts that “came from the heart” utilizing various techniques as well as unexpected materials such as metal frames from Parisian rooftops, engaging his audience and re-contextualizing the viewer’s present observation.

His latest exhibition also features numerous recent graffiti works in line with his original style. These shifting views created throughout his career reveal a body of work that lends itself to both reflections on the inner self and discovery of the outside world. Immerse yourselves in the mesmerizing universe of this remarkable artist whose imagination lures us into an extraordinary world of vibrant colors and angular shapes.

SEEN was born in 1961 in The Bronx, New York as Richard Mirando. As one of the world’s most acclaimed talents from the Street Art movement, SEEN is rightly referred to as the ‘Godfather of Graffiti’ and his enduring importance to the art of the present is attested to by the countless exhibitions in leading international galleries and museums.

In the early 1980s, SEEN moved from the streets to the studio to produce original works on canvas. When the genre of Street Art, which began as a form of subversive public communication, started to become legitimate, SEEN was at the forefront.

Today, SEEN’s works can be found in museums, galleries and prestigious private collections all over the world, influencing and producing alongside the next generation of inventive street artists. In 2013 he also broke numerous auction records, placing his art at the foremost position of today’s Street Art.
